Clinical Governance

Clinical Governance Training Program

The Health Governance Unit runs an annual Clinical Governance Training Program (CGTP). The CGTP aims at introducing the concept of governance as a framework for improving healthcare delivery and safety to frontline members of healthcare teams. The CGTP training is associated with practice assessment which helps participants acquire the necessary competencies to practice clinical governance and assess its implementation at their practice.

The CGTP is articulated in three phases: A training component which is delivered through several workshops followed by practice assessment and repeated coaching for the practice improvement for participants who join the CGTP as part of institutional healthcare teams.

An introductory workshop is usually followed by a choice of workshops on the “Clinical Governance Pillars”: clinical effectiveness, clinical audit, clinical risk management, patient participation, teamwork, and data analysis. The assessment of clinical governance practices is done through on-site assessment and multiple consultation meetings and visits with the participating institutions. The HGU will provide assistance in the development and implementation of the improvement plans.

The Health Governance Unit hopes that the CGTP will succeed in introducing the concept of clinical governance that aims at improving patient care and safety through evidence based practice and risk management within a participatory and transparent environment.
